Been there 3 times in my life and never once it fails to amaze me with its beauty! Its a must to see! U will enter via an army camp entrance and then slowly proceed up to the dam! Highly recommended if you have an action camera attached while driving or riding.
Beautiful landscape for a day rest and relax
Khao Laem Dam is the first rock-filled dam in Thailand, surfaced with reinforced concrete. It is located on the Kwai Noi River and serves as a multipurpose dam primarily for hydroelectric power generation. Situated in Tha Khanun Subdistrict, Thong Pha Phum District, Kanchanaburi Province, the dam blocks the Kwai Noi River in the area. The reservoir spans across Thong Pha Phum and Sangkhla Buri districts in Kanchanaburi Province. If traveling by regular bus, take the tour bus on the southern route to Kanchanaburi province and get off at the bus terminal in Kanchanaburi city. From there, you can take a minivan to Sangkhla Buri, but make sure to get off at Thong Pha Phum district. Then, transfer to a bus from Thong Pha Phum market to the Khao Laem Dam. If using a private car, head to the city of Kanchanaburi in Kanchanaburi province, and then proceed to Thong Pha Phum district. Beyond Thong Pha Phum market, you will pass through Thong Pha Phum district for approximately 5 kilometers to reach the Khao Laem Dam.
Nice place! You can visit for free and drive the car all the way up the dam to have a beautiful view from either the water in the dam and the valley behind the dam. There's plenty of parking space, although everyone wants to park at the same spot, right at the first meters where you drive on top of the dam. But driving all the way to the back, and you'll see plenty of space there.
Its a very beautiful hydraulic dam. Place is full of scenic beauty. There are cycles for rent who loves cycling.
