The defining picture is the reservoir-side lawn — both near the city and deeper inland toward Bo Thong and Nong Yai, where it turns properly rural and quiet. South around Sattahip a handful of camps sit near the sea, for trips that want salt air without a crowded beach.
November to February is the sweet spot, with cool breeze off the water. Hot-season sun is fierce and some lawns are short on shade — pick grounds with big trees or bring a tarp. In the rains, squalls off the reservoirs are the thing to respect: stake the tent properly, every time.
