The River Kwai corridor around town has nearly as many options, is the easiest drive, and has shops close by, which suits first-timers.
For deeper forest and cooler air, look at Thong Pha Phum and Sai Yok — lakeside pitches on the Vajiralongkorn reservoir and spots near the waterfalls. For sea-of-mist views, continue up to Pilok/E-Tong, where sites are few and the mountain road is narrow: arrive before evening and allow about two more hours from town. Sangkhla Buri is the farthest out, rewarding the drive with the Mon Bridge and Khao Laem national-park grounds.
