Mae Hong Son
4.9(9)฿20–200 / person
Namtok Mae Surin National Park in Mae Hong Son province is home to one of Thailand's tallest waterfalls, where Mae Surin stream plunges over 180 metres down a sheer cliff face. The park sits just 9 km from the Tung Bua Tong sunflower fields in Khun Yuam district, making it an easy add-on stop by car. Camping in Mae Hong Son is well catered for here, with a spacious and shaded campsite in the national park grounds. A well-maintained viewing trail on the opposite bank lets visitors see the full height of the falls from a similar elevation. Getting down to the base requires booking a park ranger guide at least one day in advance. Entrance fees are 40 THB for Thai adults, 20 THB for Thai children, 200 THB for foreign adults, and 100 THB for foreign children. Park bungalows are available and can be reserved in advance through the Department of National Parks at 0 5306 1073. The bua tong (Mexican sunflower) blooming season draws the largest crowds.
