Huai So Tue Reservoir

Huai So Tue Reservoir in Khun Yuam district offers some of the most distinctive camping in Mae Hong Son province, set inside Doi Wiang La Wildlife Sanctuary where a grove of dead standing trees rises dramatically from the middle of the lake. The campsite charges just 30 THB per person per night for tent pitching, while dormitory-style accommodation costs 150 THB per person and private rooms run 600 THB for 2–3 guests. The reservoir is fed by three streams — Huai Pa Kha, Huai Phak Khao Tong, and Huai So Tue — and is encircled by intact forest. Activities include kayaking (200 THB for the first hour, 100 THB per additional hour), birdwatching, hiking, and watching morning mist drift across the water surface. The recommended season runs from the rainy season through winter for cool temperatures and dense mist. Because the area has only recently opened to visitors, advance contact with the Doi Wiang La Wildlife Sanctuary is strongly advised before travelling.
