Which zone fits which trip

The densest cluster sits around the Srinagarind reservoir and Erawan area in Si Sawat district: wide water views, swimmable shorelines, and Erawan Falls nearby — a natural fit for family and easy-going trips. The River Kwai corridor around town has nearly as many options, is the easiest drive, and has shops close by, which suits first-timers.

For deeper forest and cooler air, look at Thong Pha Phum and Sai Yok — lakeside pitches on the Vajiralongkorn reservoir and spots near the waterfalls. For sea-of-mist views, continue up to Pilok/E-Tong, where sites are few and the mountain road is narrow: arrive before evening and allow about two more hours from town. Sangkhla Buri is the farthest out, rewarding the drive with the Mon Bridge and Khao Laem national-park grounds.

When to go

The kindest window is late November to early February — nights cool enough for a campfire and good sleep, and genuinely cold up at Pilok, so bring a warm bag. In the hot season head for the river and reservoir zones where you can swim. The rainy season is when the forest and waterfalls look their best, in exchange for checking ground conditions ahead — riverside pitches can flood fast.

Worth knowing before you go

National-park grounds — Erawan, Sai Yok, Srinagarind Dam, Khao Laem — charge a park entry fee on top of the pitch fee, and long weekends fill up: arrive before noon for a good spot.
