What makes it special

The camping ground sits within Khao Laem Dam, Thailand's first rock-fill dam with a reinforced concrete face, built across the Kwai Noi River. Its vast reservoir stretches from Thong Pha Phum all the way to Sangkhla Buri. You can walk or drive up onto the dam crest, where the view opens wide over the water on one side and the valley behind the dam on the other. Parking along the crest is plentiful — the first spots fill up quickly, but there is always space toward the far end.

Atmosphere

The setting here is a green reservoir framed by mountain ridges — open and easy on the eyes at any time of day. Bicycles are available for rent near the dam for riding around the shoreline. The high point along the dam crest is where the water and the valley come into a single frame, and the view is at its best in the late afternoon when the light falls across the reservoir. For those who enjoy the water, kayaking and fishing fill the day.
