Nakhon Pathom is some of the closest camping to Bangkok. There are no mountains and no sea of mist, but about an hour's drive gets you a night by the water. The eight grounds we list are garden homes on canals, ponds and the Tha Chin River, and half of them allow fishing.
Fees are ฿150–250 per person per night, slightly above more distant provinces, in exchange for convenience: every ground has showers, nearly all have electricity and water, and about six in ten have rental gear and a restaurant.

The largest ground has more than a hundred rai around a private lake, with kayaking and outdoor activities; another has a Japanese garden to stroll in and room to cycle. Small canal-side camps take limited numbers for privacy. In Nakhon Chai Si there is a camp on the Tha Chin River for anglers, and several pond-side grounds offer free fishing — good for children's first night in a tent.
From November to February it cools enough to sleep well without a fan, and grounds fill fastest then. In the rains the lawns are green but the ground is wet and mosquitoes are plentiful — bring a tarp and a net. The hot season is muggy: choose a ground with power and shade, and run a fan.
This is the place to test new gear or take the family's first trip: anything forgotten can be bought nearby, and home is an hour away. Many camps limit numbers, so book first, especially for Saturday night. Watch small children near the water's edge. About a third of the grounds accept pets.
