Ayutthaya is flat river country close to Bangkok, with no hills or waterfalls, so all three grounds we list are by water: one has built a beach beside a lake, and the other two sit on a river and beside fishing ponds.

The beach camp has sand and a swimmable lake — a seaside mood without the drive to the coast. The riverside ground is for doing very little, and for fishing. The camp in Sena district has ponds stocked with several species, cheap kayak hire and campfires. All three are easy camping, good for families and beginners.
November to February is cool and dry, the best time, and it suits the historical park too. In the flood season at the end of the rains, roughly September to November, some low-lying riverside parts of Ayutthaya flood regularly — check with the camp first. The hot season is very hot with little shade: pick a ground with power for a fan.
Ayutthaya is about an hour from Bangkok: temples and the old city in the morning, camp in the afternoon, with ease. The land is flat and open, so bring a tarp or a tent with good sun protection, and mosquito repellent for the waterside. There are few grounds, so book ahead for long weekends.
