Phetchaburi's underrated asset is Kaeng Krachan — Thailand's largest national park. Nearly half the province's camps sit around its reservoir and forest edge, with the rest scattered from Tha Yang to the Cha-am coast, about two and a half hours from Bangkok.
Most pitches run ฿60–300 per person per night — cheapest and wildest on the park side, easier and more family-friendly at the private grounds by the reservoir and near the sea.

Kaeng Krachan is the province's heart: reservoir-side lawns face still water and distant forest, while deeper in, Ban Krang–Phanoen Thung is the real birding and mist territory with stricter rules and seasonal closures — check before going. Nong Ya Plong to the north is low hills and hot springs, far quieter; Tha Yang–Cha-am suits trips that want to end at the sea.
November to February suits the whole province — dry and comfortably cool. The inner park (Phanoen Thung) closes for recovery roughly August to October most years, so plan that part around the open season; the reservoir-side grounds outside work year-round.
The park charges entry and admits vehicles up Phanoen Thung in timed rounds — check the current schedule. Stock food in Kaeng Krachan town or Tha Yang; shops thin out deeper in, and phone signal drops in parts of the forest.
Park grounds start around ฿60 per person plus the entry fee; private reservoir-side grounds mostly run ฿100–300.
Generally about November to July, closing for the rains — but rounds and rules shift yearly, so always check the park's current notice.
The reservoir and Tha Yang grounds, very — easy access and full facilities. The inner forest suits hikers more than small children.
