Notes from our team

What makes it special
The viewpoint at the top of Khao Phanom Thung is the image visitors carry home. Morning mist rolls in thick enough to blanket the treeline, and the air stays cool year round; on clear nights the sky can even reveal the airglow light. When storms pass through, fog may hide the view, but the next morning often opens up bright, with light filtering through the mist for beautiful photos in every direction. The small peak campsite is reached by a rough, steep track best suited to a 4WD vehicle.
Atmosphere
The mood up top shifts with the hours. In the morning, white mist drifts right past the tents, and the air is cool enough that a jacket or windbreaker is worth bringing almost any time of year. Midday light is lovely for photographing the ridgelines and the sea of fog, and the small shop near the grounds sells snacks, drinks, and hot food such as stir-fried vegetables, fried-egg basil, and instant noodles. Thai long holidays bring crowds, while weekdays feel far more spacious and calm.

Kaeng krachan National park, from the entrance it takes about 15 minutes by car to reach the park camp, from there to get to the top and view point it takes about 1 hour as it’s a very rough and in places steep road. You definitely need a 4 wheel drive vehicle. If you don’t have one you can get a lift in a camp vehicle which costs 1800 THB per vehicle, so if there’s only two of you it’s rather expensive. Also there are certain times when traffic is allowed up and certain times when it’s down only as it’s a single track road. Great views from the top and there is a small shop to buy snacks and drinks.

Very nice scenic spot overall. A little crowded during Thai holidays and high season months. Weekdays are more chill. Two camp grounds available only for tenting, one at the base( main entrance), another smaller one at the peak for a fee of 60B per tent. Bring a jacket or wind breaker as weather is cool mostly all year round. Park entry per person is 100B.
