Nakhon Sawan is a pass-through province on the way north, with four grounds in our list and each one different: Chong Yen in Mae Wong National Park, cool all year; Bueng Boraphet for birdwatchers; the limestone summit of Khao No–Khao Kaeo; and a camp beside Khao Luang near the city.
Fees are very low: ฿30 per person in the national park, ฿100 per tent at Bueng Boraphet, ฿100 per person at the private camp, and nothing to pitch at Khao No–Khao Kaeo. All have toilets and parking, and three of the four have showers and electricity.

Chong Yen is a high ridge ground in Mae Wong National Park, with a viewpoint, trails and skies dark enough for stargazing, and it is a birdwatchers' destination too. Bueng Boraphet is a large freshwater lake offering both lawn pitches and tent platforms with power. Khao No–Khao Kaeo in Banphot Phisai is an isolated limestone hill above the fields, with views all round and a chance of mist. The camp in Mueang district sits beside Khao Luang, handy as a stopover.
November to February is best everywhere: Chong Yen is properly cold, and Bueng Boraphet has the most migratory birds. Khao No offers a chance of mist from late rains into winter. In the rainy season Chong Yen is in cloud and rain most of the day, while in the hot season it is one of the few places in the upper central region where you can still sleep cool.
The road up to Chong Yen is narrow and steep, and the park runs timed slots for going up and down: check the times and road conditions with the park first, and take warm clothes even outside winter. Khao No has many monkeys — keep food sealed away. Only one of the four grounds rents gear, and only one has a restaurant, so bring everything you need.
