Lampang is a camping province people tend to drive through, though it has hot springs, waterfalls, summits and reservoirs. The best-known ground is Chae Son National Park in Mueang Pan district, where a hot spring and a waterfall share one site.
Most grounds charge ฿30–150 per person per night, and two charge nothing to pitch — Mae Mok reservoir and the EGAT Mae Moh sunflower field. Rental gear is easier to find here than in most provinces: about seven grounds in ten rent tents or equipment.

The Chae Son area offers several styles: the park's own ground near the hot spring, the Kew Fin ground with a walk up to a sea-of-mist viewpoint, private creekside camps at the park gate, and homestays in Ban Pa Miang, a tea-and-coffee village. To the west is Doi Khun Tan National Park on the Lampang–Lamphun border. Doi Chong National Park is for walkers — an 8.5 km hike to the summit. South in Thoen district are Mae Wa National Park and Mae Mok reservoir, and near the city there is a grassy hillside ground not far from Wat Phra That Lampang Luang.
Winter is best: Chae Son drops to about 10°C, just right for a morning soak in the mineral water, and the sunflowers at Mae Moh bloom in November. The rainy season suits waterfall grounds such as Mae Wa, while the water still runs strong. The hot season is very hot and smoky — if you must go then, pick a ground by water.
Lampang lies on the main road to Chiang Mai, which makes it a natural one-night stop. Free grounds such as Mae Mok reservoir have limited facilities — bring drinking water and food. Doi Chong means carrying everything up on foot, so pack light. Chae Son is crowded on winter holidays: arrive early.
