Doi Chong National Park in Lampang province rewards hikers with a summit camp at 1,379 m reached only by a challenging 8.5 km trail with a park-ranger escort — no porters, all gear self-carried. The 2-day, 1-night camping in Lampang trip takes 4–8 hours to ascend and 3–4 hours to descend, covering 17 km return. At the top, an old air-force base has been converted into a basic facility with a dormitory (for those without tents), toilets, a shower room, a kitchen, and a rainwater tank for drinking. Campers can pitch their own tent or rent a dome tent on-site. Evenings offer west-facing sunset views over a long mountain ridge, nights are clear for stargazing in every direction, and mornings bring east-facing sunrises with a possible sea of mist below. 1 star because of the higher prices that people who aren't thai have to pay. The waterfall tad pu la has terrible and minimal signage, very confusing throughout. And when you arrive the last 50m to the waterfall has no path, so you will probably continue walking past it as I did. Most people will probably give up near the start where the path has been washed away, but if you get there and if you find it, it's a disappointment anyway. Probably 3 metres tall and even after heavy rain not very impressive. There is another waterfall - khun mea Yong, not sure where that one is. I think the whole point of this national park is the 8.5km hike up to doi chong, but since that needs to be booked well in advance and is a serious trek with an overnight stay on the mountain required, your typical day tripper tourist won't find much to do at this national park. The camping area is nice, overlooking the reservoir. Edit: I went back and did the hike. Some great views at the top. It was marked with ribbons when I went so was possible without a guide. But whether you're supposed to go alone, I'm not sure. It's easily doable up and down the same day for anybody in reasonable fitness.
ดอยจงเดินง่าย… นิดเดียวจริงๆ เป็นดอยที่ยังไม่ดังเท่าไร และไม่มีลูกหาบ ระยะทางอาจจะดูไม่ไกล แต่เหนื่อยสุดๆเพราะค่อนข้างชัน แต่เจ้าหน้าที่บริการดีเยี่ยม โดยเฉพาะพี่เต๋อ ต้องขอบคุณที่ดูแลอย่างดีทั้งขาขึ้นและลง เนื่องจากดอกยางรองเท้าหลุดไปก่อนจะขึ้นถึงยอดดอย ต้องฝ่าโคลนแบบรองเท้าพื้นเรียบ ด้านบนมีโรงนอน จะมีแคร่ยกสูงจากพื้นให้นอน แต่ว่าค่อนข้างเก่า และบรรยากาศออกจะกุ๊กกู๋เล็กน้อย แต่นอนได้ไม่มีอะไร ยกเว้นตะขาบ แนะนำว่าไม่ควรนอนพื้น แต่ถ้าอยากสัมผัสอากาศธรรมชาติจริงๆ แนะนำกางเต้นท์นอนด้านนอกจะดีกว่า ห้องน้ำด้านบนค่อนข้างดี มี 1 ห้องน้ำ 1 ห้องอาบน้ำ อาหารพกมาเองนะ ส่วนน้ำ มีถังที่จนท.รองน้ำฝนเก็บไว้ สามารถดื่มกินได้ แต่ระหว่างทาง ต้องคอยสังเกตุริบบิ้นแดงให้ดี เพราะเป็นจุดบอกทาง ถ้าไม่เล็งให้ดีอาจจะหลงได้

Doi Chong National Park is a haven for hiking enthusiasts! The trek might be a bit exhausting, but the views and experience are absolutely worth it. I took 3.5 hours to ascend and another 3 hours to descend. However, if you're a seasoned trek runner, you might even beat my time! If you find yourself in Lam Pang or are just passing through, making a stop at this national park is a must. The staff are incredibly welcoming, and the facilities at the summit are decent. There are bathrooms, shelters, and a cooking area available for hikers. From the peak, you're graced with panoramic views. To the east, gaze upon Sop Prap and Mueang Districts, while the west showcases the beautiful Soem Ngam District. Moreover, the hiking fee is quite reasonable. You can indulge in this unforgettable adventure over just 2 days and 1 night. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a genuine hiking experience!
