Notes from our team

Getting there
You can park right next to the lawn, which makes unloading easy, but the staff are strict about parking spots and tent placement. Charcoal stoves must be set up on bare ground, never on the grass.
Best time to go
The lawn may close during the rainy season. Contact the camp ahead of time to confirm availability before you set off.

Doi Chong National Park

Lampang

Doi Chong National Park in Lampang province rewards hikers with a summit camp at 1,379 m reached only by a challenging 8.5 km trail with a park-ranger escort — no porters, all gear self-carried. The 2-day, 1-night camping in Lampang trip takes 4–8 hours to ascend and 3–4 hours to descend, covering 17 km return. At the top, an old air-force base has been converted into a basic facility with a dormitory (for those without tents), toilets, a shower room, a kitchen, and a rainwater tank for drinking. Evenings offer west-facing sunset views over a long mountain ridge, nights are clear for stargazing in every direction, and mornings bring east-facing sunrises with a possible sea of mist below. The trail passes through dry dipterocarp forest, dry evergreen forest, and pine forest with red-soil sections. Bookings open from 1 August 2025 via the park's official Facebook page chat only.

Kew Fin Campsite, Chae Son National Park

Lampang

Kew Fin campsite in Chae Son National Park sits on a ridge in Lampang province, known for its sea-of-fog sunrise viewpoint just 200-300 meters uphill from the tents. The camping area sits at about 1,517 meters elevation, keeping the air cool year-round, with a flat but modest-sized pitch and a quiet atmosphere. Clean toilets and dishwashing points are available at several spots nearby, and park staff maintain the area well, but there are no shops on site so campers must bring their own food, water, and gear. The drive from Lampang city takes roughly 2-3 hours, with the final stretch steep and winding, so a vehicle capable of climbing hills and careful driving are recommended. After watching the sunrise, campers can drive about 2-4 kilometers to Ban Mae Kampong village for food, though the narrow, curvy road there requires slow, cautious driving. Advance permission from park officials is required before setting up camp, and national park entrance fees plus a separate camping fee apply.
