Prachuap Khiri Khan runs for more than two hundred kilometres along the Gulf, so camping here is mostly beach camping: nine of the 16 grounds listed are on the sea, many of them under the casuarinas of a national park or forest park. The rest are inland towards the mountains, around Pa La-U and Kui Buri.
It is one of the cheapest places to camp by the sea: state-run grounds charge about ฿30 per person, most private camps ฿130–300 per person per night. Every ground has toilets, three quarters have electricity and half rent gear.

Camper favorite
In the north are Pran Buri Forest Park, a dozen kilometres from Hua Hin, and Sam Phraya beach in Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park, a quiet ground under the pines. Around Prachuap town there are a ground at Wa Ko and a seaside café at Ao Noi, ten minutes from the centre. South in Thap Sakae is Hat Wanakon National Park. Inland are the Pa La-U waterfall ground in Hua Hin district, farms and streamside camps with swimming, and Kui Buri National Park, where people come for the wild elephants.
December to May is best for the beach grounds: clear skies and little rain, with a cool sea breeze early in the year, though some days are windy. The heaviest rain falls in October and November, when the sea is rough and beach pitches are waterlogged. Pa La-U waterfall is fullest at the end of the rains, and elephant watching at Kui Buri works all year, with the animals usually appearing in late afternoon.
The park beach grounds have pine shade but take the full sea wind: bring sand pegs and extra guy lines. Only about seven grounds in ten have showers, so ask before a swim in the sea. None of the grounds we list reports accepting pets. Because the province is so long, its northern and southern grounds are a hundred kilometres apart — settle on a zone before you leave.
