Nan is for people willing to drive far for a view. Almost every camp sits on a ridge looking down at a sea of mist, rice terraces, or the bends of the Nan River — 23 of the 27 grounds listed here sell the view first, and more than half are places to stay up for the stars.
Prices fall into two clear groups: national park grounds charge about ฿30 per person, while private camps and hilltop homestays run ฿150–300 per person per night. Nearly all have toilets and showers, but only around six in ten offer electricity.

The north is the Pua–Bo Kluea road: Doi Phu Kha National Park's grounds such as Lan Du Duean beside Route 1256, then down to Sapan village where private camps line the slopes above the paddies. Further on is Ban Piang So in Chaloem Phra Kiat district, a cluster of ridge-top homestays facing Doi Phu Wae. The south is Na Noi district, with Doi Samer Dao and Pha Chu in Si Nan National Park and the year-round cool of Khun Sathan National Park. If you would rather not climb far, there are grounds near Nan town and along the Wa River in Mae Charim National Park.
November to February is the main season: genuinely cold on the ridges, with a sea of mist most mornings. Late rains, around September and October, are just as good — the paddies at Sapan and Pua turn deep green, and some summit camps get thicker mist than in winter. The hot months are dry and hazy, so distant views lose their edge.
Nan is about 670 km from Bangkok, and the hill roads — Routes 1256 and 1081 — are continuous mountain bends, so allow more time inside the province than the map suggests. Fill the tank in Pua before heading into Bo Kluea. Many ridge camps are platforms or small knolls with room for only a few tents: book ahead for winter long weekends, and bring lighting and a power bank for the grounds without electricity.
