Phu Soi Dao is a hiking trip: the ground is on the pine plateau, several hours' steep walk up — you cannot drive to it. In Tha Pla there is a homestay at Kaeng Sai Ngam, a mountain-ringed stream you can swim in. In Laplae the camp is in woodland not far from Uttaradit town, for an easy night without a long journey.
Phu Soi Dao opens seasonally, generally from around July to January. The hong nak flowers bloom from August to October — also when the trail is at its slipperiest; late in the year it is colder and clearer. Always check the park's announcements before going. The creekside camp in Tha Pla is best from late rains into winter, while the water is still up and the air is cool.
Phu Soi Dao limits visitor numbers and needs more preparation than an ordinary ground — hiking shoes, rain gear, and a porter if you carry a lot — so book with the park ahead. The two private camps are far easier and rent gear: you can turn up empty-handed. Uttaradit is on the northern railway line, so the town can be reached without driving.
