Pak Chong is the province's densest zone — easy access, restaurants and cafes everywhere — ideal for first trips and mixed groups. Wang Nam Khiao sits higher and runs slightly cooler all year; many grounds face the Phang Ma ridge for the morning mist watch. Those after a quiet recharge tend to pick this side.
November to February is when both zones look their best and fill their hardest — always book. Wang Nam Khiao's altitude keeps the hot season workable. The rains are Khao Yai's open secret: the forest at full green, the park waterfalls at full power, and far thinner crowds for anyone untroubled by getting wet.
Grounds inside Khao Yai National Park (Pha Kluai Mai, Lam Takhong) carry a separate park fee and strict wildlife rules — food stays sealed, always. The private grounds outside are more relaxed and wildlife is a non-issue. Choose whichever matches your trip.

Winter mornings, especially November–January — wake before sunrise and look toward the Phang Ma ridge.
