Notes from our team

Who it suits
At 150 baht per head, this suits families and campers who are fine self-catering, since there is no food or electricity provided. Those expecting full-service accommodation should look elsewhere. The field takes around 20 tents and is usually uncrowded, but it gets lively over New Year, so quiet-seekers should avoid holidays. Calling ahead to reserve a spot is recommended so the owner can plan the space for you.
Value for money
At 150 baht per person, you get a grassy pitch with a view spanning 3 districts of Nan, clean flush toilets with showers, a proper waste disposal point, and an attentive host. Compared with other camps lower down in the same area, this one sits at the highest point, so the price-to-view ratio is solid. Just know it is a simple camping field, not a resort.
Food & supplies
The camping fee does not cover food—there is no food service here, only a small drinks selection and no ice for sale. Bring everything you plan to eat before heading up, so budget for groceries on top of the camping fee. The good news is mobile signal works, but there is no electricity apart from solar power at certain hours, so pack a flashlight.

Lo Phu View Homestay, Ban Piang So

Lo Phu View Homestay, Ban Piang So

Nan

Lo Phu View Homestay in Nan province offers tent platforms with roof cover set against a 360-degree mountain view near Ban Piang So. This homestay has a rustic, welcoming atmosphere high in the mountains, run by a friendly owner who also grows his own coffee. Tent camping starts at 300 baht per platform, while small house rooms cost 900 to 1000 baht and large houses cost 1400 baht. The route comes in via Sapan, passing Ban Wen and terraced rice fields; the first section is a somewhat rough concrete road with some paved sections, turning into a manageable dirt road as you approach Ban Piang So — low-clearance cars are not recommended, though vans have made it up before. The site sits about 1 kilometer from the Piang So viewpoint. In the evening, moo kata (Thai BBQ) is available starting at 350 baht per set, and breakfast includes rice porridge with drip coffee from the owner's own coffee garden. Nights get quite cold, and the owner performs live music by the campfire. This is a good campsite in Nan for travelers seeking mountain views and a countryside feel.
