Mae Mok Reservoir

Lampang
5.0(5 reviews)

Mae Mok Reservoir campsite in Lampang offers free tent camping and fishing right by the water in Thoen district, near the border with Thung Saliam district in Sukhothai. It's a good option for campers who prefer a reservoir setting over the beach or mountains, with quiet evening views and few visitors. The spot is well suited for fishing and overnight tent camping along the water's edge. There is no charge to camp here, but the site has no restrooms and no electricity, so campers should bring their own supplies including lighting. Mosquitoes can be noticeable in the early evening, so insect repellent is recommended. Overall it's a low-cost, low-crowd option for anyone looking for simple reservoir-side camping in Lampang province without facilities.

Notes from our team

Getting there
The road runs long along the reservoir. Small motorbikes can weave past the barriers, while sport-style mini bikes may not make it. The dam crest is about 1.8 km long, so campers can space themselves out.
Value for money
Entry is free per person, with parking and campfires allowed. Good for a casual drive out and an overnight stay without much advance planning — just fish or relax along the dam crest.
Food & supplies
There is a restaurant at the reservoir, so no need to pack much food. Several visitors ask everyone to carry trash back to the bins so the area stays clean.

A place filled with memories. Nature makes me feel calm and peaceful.❤️ Some places aren’t special because of what they are, but because of the memories they hold. The past can never be forgotten. It simply reminds us to keep moving forward. I don’t really know what true happiness is. Maybe peace is my own little kind of happiness.🤍

Lung Loem Cattle Pen Campsite (Lan Khok Wua Lung Loem)

Located in Ban Mae Kham La, Ngao District, it lies about 18 km from the main road, with the final 4.4 to 5 km being a rough dirt-and-concrete track up the mountain. Sedans and low-clearance pickups cannot make the climb; only 4x4 trucks and motorcycles can reach the site. Kew Fin Campsite, Chae Son National ParkEquipment rental available

Kew Fin Campsite, Chae Son National Park

Lampang

Kew Fin campsite in Chae Son National Park sits on a ridge in Lampang province, known for its sea-of-fog sunrise viewpoint just 200-300 meters uphill from the tents. The camping area sits at about 1,517 meters elevation, keeping the air cool year-round, with a flat but modest-sized pitch and a quiet atmosphere. Clean toilets and dishwashing points are available at several spots nearby, and park staff maintain the area well, but there are no shops on site so campers must bring their own food, water, and gear. The drive from Lampang city takes roughly 2-3 hours, with the final stretch steep and winding, so a vehicle capable of climbing hills and careful driving are recommended. After watching the sunrise, campers can drive about 2-4 kilometers to Ban Mae Kampong village for food, though the narrow, curvy road there requires slow, cautious driving. Advance permission from park officials is required before setting up camp, and national park entrance fees plus a separate camping fee apply. Some sites near the campground sit beside a small waterfall stream, and a larger waterfall is about 1 kilometer away.
