What makes it special

The tent ground sits on a mountaintop in the Ko Se Lo area of Mae Sam Lap, Sop Moei district, Mae Hong Son province, surrounded by overlapping ridgelines. In the morning, fog settles right in front of the tents, giving a clear view of the sea of mist from the camping area itself. At night the sky opens up for stargazing without leaving the grounds. Boulders and prepared photo spots frame the panorama of mountains behind them.

Atmosphere

Evenings here center on a campfire in the open ground, with a guitar and group singing around the flames. There is no mobile phone signal in the area, but the camp sells wifi codes at 40 baht per device that work across the grounds. Night temperatures are cool, close to what Mae Sariang town gets, not bitterly cold, so a standard tent setup is enough.

Getting there

The climb up is part of the trip itself: steep, winding roads the whole way. A suitable vehicle has large wheels and light weight, and the driver should be comfortable with steep grades—loaded scooters do make it up, but it takes skill. Local advice favors the Mae Sam Lap route over the steeper Mae Ta Kuan road. There is also an 18-kilometer trail for riders who want a different way up or down.
