Khao Kheow Open Zoo Training Center Campsite in Chonburi sits at the highest point of Khao Kheow, offering panoramic views of mountains, sea, and sunset. Rates start at 300 THB per person per night up to 4,000 THB, with breakfast and free daytime zoo entry included. Campers can pitch their own tents or stay in bungalows. Electrical outlets are available at designated points (bring at least a 20-metre extension cord), and lighting is provided throughout the night. Facilities include shared and private toilets with hot-water showers, a swimming pool, and BBQ areas. Food options cover a restaurant, a 7-Eleven, and a local evening market selling fried dishes at friendly prices. A standout perk for camping in Chonburi here is early morning access to see Moo Deng the pygmy hippo and other animals before the daytime crowds arrive, with no parking competition. The access road is quite steep, and campers should secure belongings carefully due to monkeys in the area.

The accommodation is peaceful and close to nature, offering stunning panoramic views of Chonburi city. The rooms and furniture might be a bit old, as expected for government-run accommodation, but everything is clean and in working order. Internet signal is weak, and there's no Wi-Fi available on site. Breakfast is delicious.

The place is good with fresh air
Here is our dome tent at Khao Kheow Open Zoo Training Center... The outside area has a refrigerator, a bathroom, an outdoor bathtub, and a picnic table and chairs while the inside is decorated with minimal style. Anyway, I think it's unpopular because you have to walk up the hill to use shared restrooms and of course, it's unisex as well. But for me, it's comfortable enough and the price is quite reasonable because the dome is quite old and opaque so they offer us a discounted price while also included a breakfast, an entrance fee, and a vehicle fee :) If you plan to go see Moo Deng, I think this is the best option because you can wake up early and go straight to Moo Deng's habitat before the zoo's opened. I woke up around 06.00 A.M. and went to see Moo Deng at 07.00 A.M. so I had about an hour with Moo Deng and her mother before the zoo's opened at 08.00 A.M. This way, it's less crowded and we can easily move on to see another animals while everyone is heading to see Moo Deng though :) ‐------------------------------------------- This is the third time we stayed overnight at Khao Kheow Open Zoo, we chose to stay in a new small lodge. The concept of the lodge is almost as same as the dome. The difference is it has a bathroom inside so the space is quite small but it's enough for us. Anyway, next time we visit there, I will choose a black lodge instead because we will get a better view in front of the lodge ;)
