What makes it special: The most rewarding moment of the day is the hour before dawn, when the first sunlight rises right out of the lake — you can simply sit by the water and wait for the golden light. On a full-moon night, the moon climbs up from the same stretch of water, which is why early morning and evening are the times photographers set up here. During the day, trails loop around the forest and the waterfall, with open views along the lakeshore.
Atmosphere: The air here stays cool almost all day. The camping lawn sits by a lake wrapped in the forest of the arboretum, and even on a Sunday the grounds stay uncrowded, so quiet that leaves and water are the loudest sounds. There is no electricity in the area; at night only solar lamp posts give off a faint glow, which makes the sky and the moon stand out even more. The access road is rough, but it blends well with the feeling of heading into real forest.
