Atmosphere: The mood at Mahad Tai shifts with the weather. In the late rainy season the mist settles in thickly, wrapping the ridgelines until the peaks disappear. Walking the high road through Ban Katha you pass through spells of light drizzle, with cool air all day. The view opens across layered mountain ranges, a scene that draws photographers travelling specifically to capture it.
Best time to go: The best time to visit is the tail end of the rainy season, around October, when the mist grows denser than at any other time of year. Water levels have not yet flooded the road down to the viewpoint, so vehicles can easily reach it for photos. The air stays cool all day, and this is when the mountain views and seas of mist are at their finest.
