Why Camp Near Bangkok

For anyone based in Bangkok, a campsite two or three hours out turns an ordinary weekend into a real trip. Leave after work on Friday, pitch before dark, and you are home by Sunday evening without booking a flight or taking a day off.

The seven below are all live listings in our directory, ordered from closest to furthest, with the price and facilities we hold on record for each. Distances are straight-line from central Bangkok, so allow more than that for the drive.

Looking for campsites near wherever you happen to be right now, rather than near Bangkok? Use our camping sites near me finder instead — it sorts every campsite in Thailand by distance from your current location.

What to Pack

A tent, sleeping bag, torch and a change of clothes are the minimum. Nights in Kanchanaburi, Saraburi and Ratchaburi run noticeably cooler than Bangkok between November and February, so bring one more layer than you think you need. Check whether your site rents tents before you buy one — Bang Bod Buriram Camp and HuaLaem both do.

Booking and Timing

Weekend pitches at the popular sites go early, so book ahead rather than turning up and hoping. Leaving Friday afternoon instead of Friday evening saves close to an hour of traffic on almost every route out of the city. If your schedule allows a weekday night, you will often have the place close to yourself.
