Mon Ba Lu Kho Camping Ground

Chiang Mai
5.0(5 reviews)

Mon Ba Lu Kho Camping Ground is located in Chiang Mai province and offers 4 to 5 separate camping areas on red soil terrain that can become dusty in windy conditions. Visitors are permitted to cook at their campsites, and fried rice with egg is available for purchase at 40 baht per box. Facilities include parking, barbecue areas, viewpoints for observing the scenery and sea of mist, and toilets. The journey from Chiang Mai city takes approximately 3 hours, or nearly 2 hours from the Doi Inthanon visitor center. The access route is winding with alternating sections of red dirt and paved road, including some steep portions. The final kilometer consists of dirt road that may be slightly wet and muddy. Two-wheel-drive vehicles can manage the road during the dry season, but four-wheel-drive is necessary during the rainy season. Local transport services are available for those who prefer not to drive. Downloading offline GPS is recommended for navigation. The site charges 150 baht per person per night and does not offer equipment rental.

Notes from our team

Who it suits
The camping area is spread across several open lawns, so campers can pick their own spot. Arriving between 9 and 11 am gives the best chance of claiming a good pitch before others settle in. The air stays cool and windy all night — great for those who enjoy sleeping in the cold — but midday sun can be strong, so a tent with good shade helps.
Facilities
There are toilets and showers on site, but no hot water, so it is best to shower early while the evening is still warm. Bathroom facilities are limited, so expect a short wait when the site is busy. The water is not the cleanest, so anyone with sensitive skin should bring their own for washing up. Food is sold on site, and a campfire can be arranged for the night.
