What makes it special

The camping ground on Doi Thojo in Tak province sits right at mist level. On cool mornings the fog rolls right up to the tents, and the open clearing offers a full 360-degree panorama where both sunrise and sunset are visible from the same spot. The views rival those of Kalo Seul, but the trip up here is easier.

Getting there

The road up the mountain is unpaved dirt, easily handled by SUVs and pickups even with a bit of rain. Sedans can also make it to the camping ground, though it's worth checking road conditions during rainy spells, as the dirt surface can get slippery. Overall, access is simpler than the route to comparable viewpoints nearby.

Facilities

The ground has several toilets spread around, kept supplied with clean water, plus electricity points and showers for campers. Entry is 100 baht per person, so a basic camping trip doesn't require hauling everything up the mountain. It's still wise to call ahead about availability before setting off.

Best time to go

The mist is at its best in late December, when temperatures sit around a comfortable 19 degrees. When it drops to single digits, the sea of mist is spectacular; once it climbs into the teens, the fog tends to blur the view instead. For the densest mist, aim for the cool season at the end of the year.
