Mon Kruba Sai, Mae Mei National Park

Tak
5.0(5 reviews)

Mon Kruba Sai offers one of the best sea-of-fog and sunset viewpoints among campsites in Mae Mei National Park, a camping in Tak province. Tent pitch fees run about 30-100 THB per tent per night, and campers must bring their own tent and bedding. The site sits roughly 5 km from the park office, and the road is passable by sedan. There is no electricity, no shower room, and no phone or internet signal at the pitch, so campers should shower and use facilities at the park office before heading up. The toilet at the campsite itself is in poor condition. The pitch lies right beside a local road used by villagers, and cattle often wander through, leaving droppings to watch for. Those wanting sunrise views are advised to head to Mon Kiu Lom instead. From Mon Kruba Sai it's possible to hike down to the park office, about 6-7 km, as a day activity. Best suited for visitors seeking quiet and genuine rest away from crowds.

Notes from our team

What makes it special
The lookout at Mon Khru Bai Sai opens wide over Mae Moei National Park and the valleys beyond. You can park and see the view within a few steps, no long hike required. The open hilltop has even hosted a wedding ceremony on its summit. Both sunrise and sunset can be seen from this same spot, making early morning and dusk the busiest times on the platform.
Atmosphere
The summit is an open clearing high in the mountains, cool all day. As the sun sets, orange light washes over the valleys before full darkness, and once the sky darkens completely, stars fill the sky above the Mae Moei valley. During the day, layered mountain ranges stretch far into the distance, making this a spot for sitting and taking in the panorama at length without any strenuous hiking.

Amazing viewpoint. The road leading up to this is in good condition, but be careful as it is a long almost one hour drive through steep winding roads. Not advised to attempt with small vehicle and no experience of driving in Thai mountain roads.
