Rai View Suay Campsite

Phetchabun
5.0(5 reviews)

Rai View Suay campsite in Phetchabun sits on a high ridge beside a cliff, offering 360-degree panoramic views along the Phu Thap Boek 'dragon's spine' road. This campsite in Phetchabun costs 200 baht per person to pitch a tent, a small price for the expansive scenery visitors get in return. On site there's a toilet, working phone signal, and a small shop selling snacks and basics. The friendly caretaker cooks food for guests, though only one dish is available: pad kra pao with fried egg. A resident dog also stays close by, watching over the grounds. To reach the site, drivers take the route from Dan Sai through Ban Mak Khaeng and Ban Na Sa Ung up to Phu Thap Boek, a scenic road known among travelers as the Phu Thap Boek-Na Sa Ung dragon spine route. It's a good stop for those who enjoy a scenic drive paired with a high-altitude view and simple, no-frills camping.

Notes from our team

What makes it special
The most photographed spot is the bamboo hut corner by the field, looking out over a long line of mountain ridges. Early morning, before the mist fades, is when the view is at its best, layered peaks under soft light that suits photography. The breeze moving across the field all day keeps midday temperatures comfortable. Pitching on a platform rack or in a bamboo hut gives you both the view and a roof against the wind.
Atmosphere
The air up here stays cool throughout a stay, with thick fog rolling in until the view nearly disappears. The wind shifts between gentle and strong depending on the hour, and on some nights rain falls alongside the sound of wind through the bamboo. When mist sinks down to the level of the bamboo huts you can pitch beside, the whole ridge turns white. At night, solar lights along the path give just enough light to walk to the bathrooms without a torch.
