Daraga Chiang Dao

Chiang Mai
5.0(5 reviews)

Daraga Chiang Dao operates as a limited-capacity campsite that prioritizes a quiet and uncrowded atmosphere. Located within Chiang Mai's newly designated dark sky conservation area certified by the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand, the site offers views across Doi Luang Chiang Dao and opportunities to observe fireflies at night. The facility provides separate modern restroom and shower blocks for women, men, wheelchair users, and LGBTQ+ guests, with hot water available throughout. All soap, shampoo, conditioner, and cleaning products supplied are organic. Two central stargazing areas are available, each exceeding 100 square meters in size. The camping area runs on a solar cell system, so electrical outlets are provided only for charging mobile phones and power banks. Guests must bring their own tents. The rate is 300 baht per person per night, and equipment rental is not available.

Notes from our team

Atmosphere
Nights here are genuinely dark, with a sky full of stars visible to the naked eye. The owners take guests stargazing, pointing out constellations with torches and laser pointers. Around the rainy season, fireflies appear, and the sound of crickets fills the air — a real sign of being deep in nature.
Best time to go
Winter offers the clearest star-filled skies in Chiang Dao, while the rainy season brings fireflies glowing at night. Mosquito repellent is worth packing for early evening, though late at night they are hardly a bother. Mornings here come with a freshly made breakfast worth waking up for.

One of the nicest places I've stayed. The room is very comfortable and clean and the bed is soft with a very nice comforter. The water pressure is good and plenty of hot water. The owner is very welcoming and attentive. I highly recommend staying here if you are in the area. If I could give a higher rating I definitely would! The surroundings are peaceful and quiet.

The accommodation is very beautiful with a great, peaceful atmosphere. There are room types and tent camping type that you can sleep under the dark night sky close to the constellations . It truly helps restore your energy. The night there was dark and full of stars. It s like stars bathing under the sky. On the dark night, the sky was filled with stars, it’s breathtakingly beautiful. The owner was a truly wonderful host, giving us a warm and heartfelt welcome. They run the business on themselves, try their best to provide us the excellent service. They even took us star-gazing and introduced us to different constellations.” “Breakfast was simple but delightful — there are organic jam, organic vegetables picked fresh from their own garden, onzen boiled eggs, German sausages and thick-cut bacon are very delicious. But most importantly, the shio pan was the best I’ve ever had.” its a must place I recommend everyone to be there. You will receive the great energy there. The best period is in winter to see the stars or during rainy season to see fireflies. 😍❤️

A quiet relaxing getaway in chiang dao, the city of stars. Follow the signs from the main road onto the off beat path to arrive at the site. The host was super friendly and nice, showed us around the place and the next door campsite and recommended us the local market to get out dinners. The rooms were surprisingly modern and well kept (digital door lock and super comfy bed) and super spacious which we appreciated 👍🏻. At night you can either relax at the veranda and look at the night sky or walk over to the next door campsite and lie on the open floor to gaze at the stars. They have torch lights and lazer pointers for this. :D In the morning we had a delicious home cooked breakfast with thick cut bacon, sausages, fresh veggies from the garden, home made yoghurt, local fruits (yellow berry like tomatoes), soft boiled egg and lemon grass tea. Overall enjoyed my stay with Daraga and would recommend. Wish that this place was offered on trip.com as well :')

Literally just left the place. We camped with a big group with children, the camp space is nicely set up with each group having individual space. The toilet is spotless clean with hot shower and organic toiletries. There is a designated spacious kitchen area with a large double sink and recycle corners. Everything is well thought out and well maintained. You can rent tents from them too. The stargazing at night is really beautiful, the kids really enjoyed it.

We came here as a group of 10 and had the best time! The resort is private, peaceful, and surrounded by true nature - you can even hear crickets and see fireflies at night! With 4 bedrooms it fit us perfectly. The views are amazing, especially at night with so many stars visible to the naked eye. The owners, Khun Kul and her husband, are super kind and even took us stargazing with fun explanations about the sky and stars. Breakfast was fresh and delicious every morning - the homemade bacon and Shio Pan were our favorite! Tip: bring mosquito repellent for the early evening (late at night there aren’t any though). Also, it’s best to rent a local van or car since there’s no public transport to the resort. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a quiet, relaxing getaway with friends and family!
